
Stop Fighting Your Preform Temperature: A Better Way to Heat Husky HyPET Systems
If you’ve spent any time with high-speed PET blowing, you know the struggle. The surface of the preform looks great, but the core is still cold. That’s how you end up with thin walls and bottles that just aren’t stable. It’s frustrating. We wanted to fix that. So, we built lamps specifically for Husky HyPET systems that actually push the heat deep into the plastic, rather than just scorching the outside. Getting the heat where it matters Here is the secret: it’s all about the wavelengths. We messed around with the halogen gas pressure and the tungsten filaments to make sure the radiation hits the PET in a way the plastic actually wants to absorb. It’s not about cranking up the raw heat—that just burns the surface. It’s about penetration. When you switch to these, the center of the preform warms up way faster. You can keep your cycle times lean and still get a perfectly distributed wall thickness. The nuts and bolts These are simple drop-in replacements. We made sure the lengths and connectors are spot on so they sit perfectly in your oven reflectors. If they’re loose, you get hotspots, and then your lamps burn out way too early. We also used high-purity quartz glass because thermal shock is a nightmare. One heads-up on the voltage. If you run these at the absolute top of the spec, you’ll get more heat density, but your lamps won’t last as long. It’s a trade-off. If you’re pushing for maximum throughput, just be ready to swap them out more often. A few tips for the install Stick to the original Husky electrical specs. If you wander off script with the load, you’re going to trip your controllers, and nobody wants to deal with that mid-shift. And please, do me a favor: wipe the quartz tubes with isopropyl alcohol before you put them in. Even a few fingerprints leave oil spots. Once those bake into the glass, they create “hot spots” that can crack the tube. Plus, keep those reflectors clean. A dusty reflector kills all the hard work we put into the lamp’s penetration. If your reflectors are pitted or worn out, even the best lamp in the world can’t save your heating profile.
