Let’s be honest: there is nothing more frustrating than a line shutdown because a heating tube decided to burn out right in the middle of a run. Usually, when these tubes pop, it’s because of structural stress or some annoying voltage spikes. That’s why we built our PC preform softening lamps differently. We didn’t just follow the standard factory manual—we beefed them up. We focused on structural reinforcement so you can actually stop worrying about these interruptions. The Heat Struggle Working with Polycarbonate (PC) is tricky. You need the infrared heat to soak deep into the material to get it soft, but if you overdo it, you scorch the plastic. Our lamps are designed for high-wattage output to keep that heat density consistent across the preform. But here is the thing: your power supply has to be steady. When you’re pushing high wattage through a 400V system, things get incredibly hot. If your oven’s cooling fans are clogged with dust or acting up, the ends of the lamps will overheat. Keep those fans clean. It’s a simple fix that saves a lot of money. Built to Take a Beating Most lamps fail at the pinch seal. It’s the weak point. To fix that, we used reinforced quartz glass and tougher electrodes. High-speed production lines are brutal—especially with those rapid start-stop cycles. These lamps are built to handle that expansion and contraction without cracking. Plus, we use high-purity quartz. This keeps the shortwave IR emission steady. No more “cold spots.” When you have cold spots, the preform stretches unevenly, and that’s exactly how you end up with bottles that burst. Getting Them Running The best part? You don’t need to rewire your whole setup. These are direct replacements for SIG footprints. Just plug them into your existing connectors and you’re good to go. Now, a quick tip on maintenance. Even the toughest lamp can’t fight physics. Check your reflectors. If they’re pitted or oxidized, the heat doesn’t go into the preform—it bounces right back into the tube. That puts massive stress on the quartz and burns the lamp out way too early. Keep those reflectors polished. Your lamps will last longer, and your life will be a lot easier.
